Iris 'White Swampy Thing'

Iris 'White Swampy Thing'

I had a client with a four acre wetland that we painstakingly cleared and restored and planted. At the time I found every water loving Iris that I could to plant in that garden. Over years the different species and hybrids set seed and there were surprises everywhere. When I restored an old flood pond on my farm a decade ago I brought plants from that garden and threw—yes threw—them into the muck where they rooted and thrived. The best of them is this iris. It’s a luscious pretty white japanesque iris with lush foliage that has made huge and satisfying colonies and seems to bloom for months. I have only seen it from a distance blooming in the swamp until I finally risked my life and went out into the quicksand (no joke) to dig some. Maybe a close up look at the flowers will help me id it. Either way its really very pretty and I’m certain it’ll do well in average to wet to watery soil. I suspect its got I. virginicus in its genes.
